Another interesting and well put together article, well done.

On a similar note, do you have any references to Outram's Scouts?

I ditto Steve's comments, fascinating. Wish we had been taught WW1 history at school, with visits to the McMillan Library in Nairobi.

Cheers

The only unit that I know of with Outram's in the title is the Indian Army Regiment 123rd Outram's Rifles.

In 1914 it contained 4 companies of Rajputana Jats, 2 companies of Rajputana Rajputs and 2 companies of Punjabi Mussalmans.

It was in Nasirabad when the Great War commenced.

The 1st Bn served in India, Mesopotamia and Persia.

The 2nd Bn (formed in 1916) served in Mesopotamia, Egypt and India.

The 3rd Bn (formed in 1917) served in India, Persia and Mesopotamia.

Yes, I'd heard of that outfit before and it's not them.

George Henry Outram was, as you are no doubt aware, an experienced Game Hunter and Tracker who was commissioned into the 25th Royal Fusiliers. It would appear, from a couple of snippets of information that I've found, that he was responsible for a group of Masai scouts (whether officially or not I don't know) and I just wondered if you'd come across anything as part of your researches.
