chrislock Posted 30 November , 2010 Share Posted 30 November , 2010 Hi all. This week whilst walking along the old front line positions within Sanctuary Wood, I walked through the mine crater belt and lastly into the crater at Fort 13, had a look around the German concrete bunker within, walked up towards the southern lip and exited straight out onto a brand new bulldozed track which had been driven straight through the wood from the main central track ending right up to the crater lip itself! I suppose this has something to do with local authority Great War tourism plans sweeping the battlefield locations today. Does anyone on board have the full details on how far this site will develop etc?
carlosrocha Posted 20 January , 2011 Share Posted 20 January , 2011 I'm visiting the area in April so will have a look and see if anything else has happened since your visit unless anyone else has been since? Regards Carlos
chrislock Posted 20 January , 2011 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2011 Hi Carlos. I have walked the wood on many occasions since my first observation and as of yesterday, the situation is still the same however, after speaking to Patrick in the Shell Hole, he believes it may be early preparation for the 100 years commemorations, ie opening up access points. Of course it may simply be the forestry workers opening up a new access track/road for forestry work. There is certainly loads of this going on at the moment around the major woods in the area.
