Jerrymurland Posted 30 November , 2010 Share Posted 30 November , 2010 I'm hoping one of our Belgian pals can help me here. What is the significance of the rows of stones near the cycle path from Nieuwpoort to Diksmuide near Pervijze? Google Earth location is: Google Earth 51 04.917 N, 002 47.507 E. Joris Ryckeboer Posted 30 November , 2010 Share Posted 30 November , 2010 It's art, not a monument. But it remembers what happened there during the First World War. Located at the Belgian first lines, it represents the numbers 4, 8, 19, 14, 11, 11, 19 and 18. But it also represents the "passerelles", duckboards, layed down into the flooded land. Kind regards! Jerrymurland Posted 30 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 30 November , 2010 Joris, Thanks for that. Two more questions: What is the significance of the numbers? and who was the artist/sculptor? Jerry
