Seany Posted 29 November , 2010 Share Posted 29 November , 2010 On 12th December Mrs Seany and I are in Flanders visiting her family, my brother in law has suggested a boys day out to Ieper, - but looking around the museum websites everything seems closed in December. I still plan to visit appropriate cemetries and various spots where I know my grandfather was at various times but as its my first visit wanted something else as well - please advise. In Flanders Fields in the cloth hall will be open 10.00-1700, plus you can visit Yorkshire trench, Boezinghe, Hill 62 and Hooge may be open during the middle of the day as well, by the time you have visited maybe a couple of cemetries, Menin gate, Ramparts, St Georges etc you may have time for a bier! Seany Posted 29 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 29 November , 2010 it says In Flanders Fields in the cloth hall will be closed all december / january for refurbishing and thats where I really wanted to go. Maybe just around the town of Ieper then as you suggest? PS - Don't encourage the Belgian brother in law to drink beer, I'd end up having to drive us both home - on the wrong side of the road. open 10.00-1700, plus you can visit Yorkshire trench, Boezinghe, Hill 62 and Hooge may be open during the middle of the day as well, by the time you have visited maybe a couple of cemetries, Menin gate, Ramparts, St Georges etc you may have time for a bier! According to their website the museum will be open from 1pm till 5pm. Seany Posted 30 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 30 November , 2010 Dear Charlotte, thank you for this, my grandfather's battery was at one time near to Poperinge so that sounds most appropriate. I don't think we will be ice skating - two fools and sharp blades don't quite go together. Hello Seany What about Talbot House museum in ? charlotte cardoen-descamps Posted 30 November , 2010 Share Posted 30 November , 2010 Dear Seany, In the meantime I can also inform you that the Hooge Crater museum will also be open. This too is a museum not to be missed. It has the most impressive collection of artefacts, nicely put on display and very nicely labeled. Kind regards, charlotte
