joee86 Posted 28 November , 2010 Share Posted 28 November , 2010 Hi I am researching a friend's relative for him. The relative in question is a Robert Dyer, may be spelt differently. All that is know is that he served in the Surrey Gunners? He also had a connection to King's Lynn. Any help would be great. Thanks.
sotonmate Posted 28 November , 2010 Share Posted 28 November , 2010 joee86 Sparse info ! Here's what it might mean. Two soldiers named Robert DYER,both served in the Royal Field Artillery, neither came from King's Lynn as far as I can see: 1) Robert DYER 23774 Gunner RFA. Lived with mother Emily at Galway Street in Finsbury London, she died in 1918 from diabetes.Joined in Glasgow in Nov 1914,aged 19. Into war theatre (France) 25.9.1915 with 113 Brigade. 14 pages of service record on Ancestry UK. 2) Robert Whitehead DYER 86068 Gunner RFA. Lived with wife Emma (nee Bennett) in Chew Stoke,Bristol. One child son born Dec 1916. Joined at Hilsea Portsmouth Jan 1915. Joined 87 Brigade and into war theatre (France) on 18 July 1915.Service record on Ancestry UK. Both survived the war. (2) was discharged in 1920 as unfit for further service. You might need to get a bit more information if it's neither of these ! Sotonmate
