Mark Hone Posted 13 March , 2003 Share Posted 13 March , 2003 I put a notice about this on the forum a few months ago but no-one had any information so I am trying again. Last year the beautiful hand-illuminated war memorial scroll from the old mill at Summerseat in Lancashire went missing. The memorial had been displayed for many years at the entrance to the mill building which had been converted into the Waterside Inn. When the pub was recently refurbished the memorial vanished along with other pieces of historic memorabilia which decorated the interior. All of these items were actually on long-term loan from the Bury Museum and Art Gallery and they are naturally keen to recover their property. Enquiries conducted by the museum as to what happened to the items have got nowhere. They were apparently clearly marked 'Property of Bury Museum and Art Gallery' on the back. Luckily I photographed the memorial for the National Inventory a few years ago so there is a permanent record of the names it contained. If anyone does come across the memorial please let me or Bury Museum know.
