RobL Posted 25 November , 2010 Share Posted 25 November , 2010 Does anyone know the title, and artist, of the fantastic painting that adorns one issue of John Buchan's 'Greenmantle', showing a couple of Short 184's basking in the sun? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Greenmantle-Wordsworth-Classics-John-Buchan/dp/1853262048/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1290721627&sr=8-7 I have the book, but can't find any details of the painting anywhere edit - actually, found the information, on the back cover! It's called 'Allied Seaplanes at Kephalo used for observation of positions to be bombarded by warships' by Norman Wilkinson
pete-c Posted 7 December , 2014 Share Posted 7 December , 2014 A very late reply to this post but for the sake of historical accuracy better late than never. The machines illustrated are in fact Short Type 166s, NOT 184s - a very common mistake. As you point out Rob a painting by Norman Wilkinson, these machines being beached at Ark Royal Bluff seaplanebase, Aliki Bay, Imbros.
