BRONNO Posted 24 November , 2010 Share Posted 24 November , 2010 I have been asked to try and locate any information on this soldier who served with the Notts and Derby Regiment. I can't find his Medal Index Card or any Papers relating to him, he is 27156. Sjt. A. Mitchell. Notts and Derby Regt. His service number indicates a typical 17th Battalion (Welbeck Rangers) man but this is only from my own personal knowledge of the numbering system. I have tried searching for his M.I.C. (Medal Index Card) entering many different variations and combinations to his number and name with no luck. The information highlighted above is impressed on the medals. Any help would be much appreciated in finding him. BRONNO.

mikebriggs Posted 25 November , 2010 Share Posted 25 November , 2010 Hi Geoff Not quite sure I'm with you. The unique regimental number for Alfred Mitchell, 27156, is the same on the medal roll as impressed on the medal (as Bronno mentioned). Has to be the the one and only
BRONNO Posted 25 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 25 November , 2010 Dear Bronno here we go........a 10th Battn man sandwiched amongst 17th men (as you predicted). Must be a lost MIC cheers Mike Thank you sotomate and skipman for your input, and Mike you have hit the nail on the head i think it proves beyond doubt by what you have found on the medal roll. As you mentioned, his M.I.C. is undeniably missing as i had searched everywhere, even the Regimental Archivist had given up on the search for this man. Even searched the 16th Btn and 17th Btn War Diaries so i am doing the same with the 10th Btn to see if he is mentioned but i doubt that he will be. Hi Kevin, i too was not quite sure what you meant but thanks for having a search it was much appreciated. Thanks everyone.
