Reading War Memorials -

As part of the project to commemorate Fred Potts VC of Reading we will be launching a website in January (hopefully) which gives information about Fred and about Reading. You can look at a draft of the website at www.pottsvctrust.org.

One part of the site will have information about the WW1 Memorials within the Borough of Reading. As a start we have identified a number of sites and thanks to Berkshire Family History Society we have most of the names on these memorials.

What we are trying to do is to provide a photograph(s) of each memorial, a little bit about it and some details of the men mentioned on the memorial. They are not all men who died as the memorials include rolls of honour.

You can see the draft of this section by going to my website www.purley.eu and selecting Reading war memorials.

Now for the requests

Do you have details of any other memorials? (I know there are a lot more)

Do you have any photographs? - particularly of memorials not accessuble to the public

Where I have listed the men can you spot misidentification, incorrect data or supply any additional information?

The database that is driving the lists covers men from the Royal Berkshire Regiment, the 66th and 49th Foot from 1800 to 1920 plus men from Berkshire who served in WW1 and I will happily try to answer any queries that you may have.

Thanks in advance

John
