ianw Posted 22 November , 2010 Share Posted 22 November , 2010 The BBC today reports that this rather thick thief has been caught and the plaques recovered. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-11567578 Very worried about these items nationwide though. Imagine the carnage if the Councils turn the street lights off to save a fiver! What a false economy that would be - talk about back to the Dark Ages! Old Owl Posted 22 November , 2010 Share Posted 22 November , 2010 Great News!! A shame that these sort of scum can't see further than a quick fix. Let's hope that they make him pay for having them re-fixed and also for any damage caused. Robert

Don't be so lenient what's wrong with early February using only a toothbrush and cotton buds Ray
NigelS Posted 16 June , 2011 Share Posted 16 June , 2011 From today's Daily Telegraph justice seems to have been served with what looks - at least to me - like a fairly sensible sentence for the crime: War Memorial Theft A 24-year old man has been jailed for 10 months in connection with the theft of plaques from a town's war memorial. Ernie Jones, of Lingfield, Surrey, pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court to handling stolen goods. Although, as he was charged with handling, it's possible that he might not have been the thief, I would guess that its more likely that that charge could be proven whereas one of theft couldn't.
