Hello Mortimer

There may not actually be anything!

The 3/ prefix indicates that it was one of the TF depot and training units, established towards the end of 1914 to provide drafts for the 1? and 2/ echelons of the same units.

The 1/ units were pre=war TF units, most of which volunteered for overseas service. The 2/ units were originally formed from those men in the 1/ units who did not volunteer for overseas service, although many of these did in fact go abroad later.

1/I East Lancs Bde RFA, later numbered 210 Bde, formed part of 42nd (E Lancs) Division which went to the Middle East in late 1914, serving in Gallipoli durin 1915 and then going to Egypt before being sent to France in April 1917 where it remained.

2/I East Lancs Bde RFA, later numbered 330 Bde, formed part of 66th (2/E Lancs) Division which stayed in the UK until going to France in July 1917.

3/I East Lancs Bde RFA never went abroad as such, although it would have sent men to both the other brigades. As far as I know, it remained in the Greater Manchester area.

Does this help at all?

Ron
