Loyal North Lancs soldier sought

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'd be grateful if anyone could find any information on this chap:

Pte George Mason 18842 (Later number 3847038 - This looks like a WW2 number?)

Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. No indication of a battalion which is what I'm looking for.

His 85 year old son comes to the museum regularly where I work. He asked me to find out anything I could.

Thank you again for your time.

Best wishes

Stephen

That's an early to mid 1920's number for the Loyals. His service records will almost certainly be at Glasgow in that case. Most likely to be 1st or 2nd battalion, but could also be 4th or 5th Bn. (post war)

Found his medal index card.

It just gives Loyal North Lancs Regiment and service no. 18842.

British War Medal and Victory Medal: Roll H/2/101 B8 Page 1149.

Couldn't find service or pension records, so they might be available from the Veteran's Agency.

HI, Stephen , going by numbers found in the sdgw ,i searched the first 200 out off 1531 all belonging to men from the 1st bn ,18875,18866,18852,18517 and nothing close in other regiments, i would try ,fulwood barrocks , preston, http://www.qlrmuseum.co.uk/fulwood_barracks.htm, to be 100% sure, tony

Just going through the threads that's why I am a little late responding

I have a silk

In Loving Memory of William Riley of Lane Side Farm Accrington

and a poem

On the CWGC site it gives his number as 44375 1st Battalion Loyal North Lancs he was kia October 2 1918.

Hope that helps some one researching numbers etc

This is the silk print for William Riley .

William was a friend of my Uncle Henry Wilkinson 18611 kia 8th East Lancs 31 May 1917.

If anyone should have any info on This soldier W Riley it would be appreciated as we will visit him and pay our respects in September

The 18*** Number looks to be a Kitchener's Army era Number [ie 1914/15 Volunteers] ,in common with other Infantry Units who generally had numbers from 10*** to around 20*** [up to 10000ish; were IIRC likely to be Regulars up to 1914]

The later number indicates he continued Service post War either as a Regular or in the TA.
