mcroberts Posted 21 November , 2010 Share Posted 21 November , 2010 Has anyone heard of a material called 'White Cordite' it appears to be a form of cordite that occured during manufacture, it seemingly was removed from the good cordite before packing. It was thought to be dangerous if used in munitions. Can anyone throw any light on this, regards Myrfin

Can anyone throw any light on this, regards Myrfin Cordite is a mixture of Gun Cotton and Nitro Glycerine, the two were combined using a solvent such as acetone, 5% petrolium jelly was added as a lubricant, which gave it its colour. White Cordite is probably Gun Cotton which has only partially disolved in the solvent. For small arms ammo it was extruded through dies to what was called 5/2 cordite, 5/100ths of an inch outside diam & 2/100th bore. Retlaw.
