nhclark Posted 21 November , 2010 Share Posted 21 November , 2010 I'm trying to help a cousin trace something meaningful about her maternal grandfather. Harry Neal was born 28th August 1865 in Clerkenwell, London. Harry was his proper name, not a diminutive. He always had addresses in Clerkenwell or Tottenham. It is believed that Harry was conscripted in 1916. It is known that he served as a POW guard at the Brocton POW Camp during the First World War. There happens to be an SWB medal card for a Harry Neal who served with the 112th Protection Company of the Royal Defence Corps. I know that this company was in May 1918 a Central Reserve Company under the London District Command. This Harry Neal had number 2557, but he enlisted in October 1914 and was discharged in March 1918, so although I don't believe this is the correct Harry it's something of a coincidence and a lead that needs to be followed. Here http://www.favell.org.uk/WW1died.htm I've found evidence that the 112th Protection Company served at various (but unspecified) POW camps during the war. So, my questions are as follows: - is there a list of RDC Protection Companies that served at Brocton POW Camp? - did the 112th Protection Company serve at Brocton at any time? - what else am I missing in my search for Harry Neal? Any help as always most gratefuly received. Thank you. Noel
