replies to lion passant

So many thanks to everyone that helped solve my mystery of the 'lion passant' that actually turned out to be a tiger with the rose broken off. It is indeed the York & lancs collar badge.

If iknew how to reply to you all collectively then i would but had to do it this way. sorry.

I have included a picture of my grandfather H.W. Sames (he joined in 1914 and survived) taken in october 1916 the inscription on the back reads 'taken in france- village behind firing line'

if you look particularly closely then you can make out the cat and cabbage (now i know what i am looking at )

There is a medal index card for Lieutenant, later Captain, Harold Woodhouse Sames, York and Lancaster Regiment on the National Archives, army records, medal index cards section, documents on line, website and presumably on Ancestry too. I haven't downloaded the card but I expect that someone will do it if you are patient. (I don't have an account with Ancestry).
