4th,5th & 6th battalions the Gloucestershire regiment

Can anyone tell me if the 4th, 5th &6th battalions, the Gloucestershire regiment (TF), wore the back badge?

Hi Andy,

This has been covered in a previous thread. The thread also contains images of a trench cap I have in my collection to a Service Battalion of the Regiment. This has the back badge.

I was always led to believe that the back badge was only worn by the regulars especially since the TF battalions carried the blank tablet on their cap badges, I've yet to see any documentation to say that the TF did wear them but I'm happy to be proved wrong

The earlier thread mentioned that there is a version of the back badge with a blank tablet. Has anyone got one of these? I would love to see it if possible.

There's plenty of official War Office documentation for Gloucester TF units wearing a blank scroll back badge at the National Archives and probably eslswhere !

I have seen a blank scroll badge at auction but alas did not win it. It was made that way rather than erased.

Interesting in that you say it was made that way and not erased. I have got one or two badges (not Gloucestershire back badges) that have had their scrolls / tablets erased. Is this correct? or is some one pulling a fast one and is the value going to be different?

Yes it was a blank scrolled back badge on a sldier. It had not been erased but made that way. Erasing a regular one is supect and probably done to decieve as there is a 10fold difference in price..
