rewbarbel Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 Can anyone tell me if the 4th, 5th &6th battalions, the Gloucestershire regiment (TF), wore the back badge? Many thanks, Andy
Adam Llewellyn Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 I couldn't tell you Andy, but I've always find this site very useful when after information on the Glosters. http://www.glosters.org.uk/ Regards. Llew.
tocemma Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 Hi Andy, This has been covered in a previous thread. The thread also contains images of a trench cap I have in my collection to a Service Battalion of the Regiment. This has the back badge. jay dubaya Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 I was always led to believe that the back badge was only worn by the regulars especially since the TF battalions carried the blank tablet on their cap badges, I've yet to see any documentation to say that the TF did wear them but I'm happy to be proved wrong Jon
rewbarbel Posted 19 November , 2010 Author Share Posted 19 November , 2010 Many thanks for your resposes. The earlier thread mentioned that there is a version of the back badge with a blank tablet. Has anyone got one of these? I would love to see it if possible. Thanks again, Andy
JulianB Posted 20 November , 2010 Share Posted 20 November , 2010 There's plenty of official War Office documentation for Gloucester TF units wearing a blank scroll back badge at the National Archives and probably eslswhere !
max7474 Posted 29 November , 2010 Share Posted 29 November , 2010 I have seen a blank scroll badge at auction but alas did not win it. It was made that way rather than erased.
rewbarbel Posted 3 December , 2010 Author Share Posted 3 December , 2010 Hi, I've been away, just catching up... Thanks for that. when you say a blank scroll badge was it the back badge? Interesting in that you say it was made that way and not erased. I have got one or two badges (not Gloucestershire back badges) that have had their scrolls / tablets erased. Is this correct? or is some one pulling a fast one and is the value going to be different? Andy
max7474 Posted 8 December , 2010 Share Posted 8 December , 2010 Yes it was a blank scrolled back badge on a sldier. It had not been erased but made that way. Erasing a regular one is supect and probably done to decieve as there is a 10fold difference in price..
