sjustice Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 Hello all, Can anyone with the proper access tell me if the service records for Albert Fletcher have survived? Additionally, on the off chance, are there Devons buffs with any info on this particular soldier? Thanks, Simon
sotonmate Posted 18 November , 2010 Share Posted 18 November , 2010 Simon No service record readily apparent on Ancestry UK,this means that you might have to carry out a more thorough search as there have been lots of errors in the database with mixed records under one heading ! Your subject landed in France on 22.9.1915 with the 10th Battalion, which was part of 79 Brigade of 26 Division. Their War Diary from landing to end of October 1915 is under WO95/2253. In November 1915 they set off for Salonika and the Bn stayed there until April 1919,War Diary WO95/4876. Neither of these Diaries are digital,so can't yet be downloaded from the National Archives Catalogue, but are viewable on site. Your subject changed unit at some time and was allocated the Labour Corps number of 599428. There are members here who can give you a date adjacent to when he changed unit, which might have been due to injuries or sickness which made him less than A1 fitness but not serious enough for discharge,or he may have just been transferred to the Labour Corps. The 1914-15 Star Medal Roll may have some information in this respect,as he was issued that Medal from the Labour Corps Rolls for service he had in the 10 Devons. That is not unusual. The Roll number LC/11c2 33 33/8 will relate to the ledger WO329/2839 at Kew wherein the original Medal Roll sits.
