GraemeClarke Posted 17 November , 2010 Posted 17 November , 2010 Gents Im researching a man who is listed as being KiA on Tuesday 2 April 1918 serving in the 12th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He is commemorated on the Pozières Memorial on Panel 61 to 64. As far as I am aware the War Diary states “2 April 1918 - Battalion arrived at the village of Quevanvillers where the men were given a hot meal in a field. As no billets were available, the battalion moved on to the village of Revelles.” Using SDGW there are 57 men KiA or DoW this day !! Can anyone tell me what happened ? Regards Graeme
connaughtranger Posted 17 November , 2010 Posted 17 November , 2010 Possible explanation? The SDGW records only 20 men KIA between 21st and 31st March 1918, yet the Chronicle shows 37 OR's killed, 216 wounded and 207 missing or POW. The Battalion was fragmented during the retreat and papers could have been lost or destroyed. The first time they came together as a remnant was on April 2nd, so it's conceivable that a roll-call and personal testimony was dated on that day for official purposes Regards Martin
GraemeClarke Posted 21 November , 2010 Author Posted 21 November , 2010 Hi Martin Many thanks for your reply - makes sense. I obviously need the War Diary prior to the date I have !! (anyone ?) Regards, Graeme
