Andrew Hesketh Posted 16 June , 2004 Share Posted 16 June , 2004 A colleague at work found one of these in an attic. The opening pages are missing but it's dated Christmas 1914 and contains all sorts of tributes to the Belgian's from various luminaries of the day. Would anyone know the background to this book? Tom Morgan Posted 16 June , 2004 Share Posted 16 June , 2004 It was published in 1915, Andrew, and sold to raise funds for the Daily Telegraph Belgian Relief Fund. As you say, it was a tribute to the Belgian people, from important people of various countries. (Various countries which were on "our" side, that is.) It also included work by some of the most famous illustrators of the day. Tom

MartinWills Posted 16 June , 2004 Share Posted 16 June , 2004 It's a lovely little period keepsake which, for some reason, can often be found for £5 or £10 on bookstalls. An interesting and inexpensive purchase.
