sotonmate Posted 14 November , 2010 Posted 14 November , 2010 carajady There seems to be no surviving service or pension record for this soldier.I searched for pension papers because his Medal Card shows the issue of a Silver War Badge, which suggests a possibility that he was discharged to wounds or a disability caused by war service. You will be able to find which Battalion he served on first landing in a war theatre from the original Medal Rolls which are at Kew. His reference for the issue of the British War and Victory Medals is shown as O/2/104B23page 2862 which relates to the Ledger WO329/908.The Battalion will likely be entered there. Also, the original SWB List shown as O/2741/2 relates to the Ledger WO329/3144,wherein you may find other snippets. Once you have the Battalion he served you can trace their War Diary, which will be at Kew in the WO95 series. Sotonmate

Sotonmate Thank you this backs up the story thay my mother remembers being told that he died of kidney failure in1923 due to standing in the water logged trenches he was 26 . His discharge code was A06/18295 would this be because he was ill because of his service?
mmm45 Posted 14 November , 2010 Posted 14 November , 2010 I think the MIC says reason for discharge AO 6/18 (ARMY ORDER June 1918) number 265 there is then 2a which if i remember correctly means overseas service and there is an S for sickness Hopefully someone can confirm what AO 265 says. Ady
kevin Posted 16 November , 2010 Posted 16 November , 2010 The numbers is 52768, and i find it strange that he enlisted on the 6/6/1916, as if he had enlisted into the West Yorks at this date he would have a 33*** number, this number 52768 comes from early 1917. So he may well have come frome another Battalion or attested on the 6/6/1916 and then was called up to the West Yorks early 1917. Regards as always Kevin
