claymore123 Posted 13 November , 2010 Posted 13 November , 2010 I have in my possession a pair and memorial plaque to to 4352 TSM Verner Bracegirdle Lingard who died on 13.5.18 whilst serving as a Sergeant with the 6th Rerve Lorry Park. He is buried at Huby-St-Leu British Cemetery. On his service papers he is shown as serving with 42 sqdn. 101 sqdn and finally 6th Reserve Lorry Park. On 12.5.18 he suffered GSW to abdomen and thigh and a day later he died. Can anyone advise me what a Lorry Park was? Was it really just a MT depot for vehicles and would such vehiclee parks come under attack? It may have been an accident but would they ordinarily be carrying loaded weapons at that stage of the war in what I imagine was a relatively safe area of theatre? Any further information greatfully received. iain
john-g Posted 14 November , 2010 Posted 14 November , 2010 In AIR10 the RAF Muster Roll this number is given to a V Lingward s/n 4352, the CWGC say the man is V B Lingard as does Hobson's Airmen Died in the Great war? A check of AIR79/57/4352 finds him listed as Verner Lingard. I hope this helps. john_g www.66squadron.co.uk

Guest Big Linger Posted 24 January , 2011 Posted 24 January , 2011 Hi, I joined this forum to ask about Verner Bracegirdle Lingard, as he was my father's father's father. I was bored one day and googled our old family name, and this forum came up. The 'Bracegirdle' part of my surname was dropped around the time of my grandfather, although it is a strong Lancastrian name, like Lingard. I don't know the particulars about his life. His son, my grandfather who was also called Verner, and fought in WW2, died over 20 years ago, and my father seems none the wiser either. If it's possible to see a photo of the plaque you have, that would be amazing! Kind regards, Si.
