Chris T Posted 12 November , 2010 Posted 12 November , 2010 I wonder if anyone can help with this. (I hope) I've attached the medical card for my Great Grandfather, Sidney Stevens. It shows that he joined the 3/4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment/Green Howards in November 1915. He was given one of the 4 digit regimental numbers. However, he was subsequently transferred to the 7th Battalion and my question is, is it possible to gauge from the info on this card (e.g. new regimental numbers) when this might have happened? I know the basic history of each battalion, it's just a question of when he was in each. I am trying to piece together his movements. I have a strong suspicion he was in the 7th by the start of the Somme as he is listed as injured on 4th July 1916. This leads me to my second question. Is it likely that an injury's "date of origin" on a medical card would be recorded a couple of days or so after the actual injury had occurred e.g. when someone was admitted to a hospital or first seen by a doctor? I ask because I think it seems likely he would actually have been injured on the first day of the battle i.e. 1st July if he was in the 7th battalion, based on their involvement that day. Anyway, any help greatly appreciated including anything else related to these two battalions as I'm also trying to work out when and where he linked up a Captain to whom he became batman. A Major James Smart Crone. He is mentioned in the history of the 10th Battalion but was obviously in one of the two battalions mentioned above at some point. Thanks for reading. Chris
