Any further details for the POW company?

BUNCE, Private Albert.

Occupation: Death certificate details his job as farm labourer.

Address / Next Of Kin, family details: Purton. Son of William and Susannah Bunce, Odd time cottage, Pavenhill, Purton.

MIC details / Medal entitlement.

35244 Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

612080 Prisoner of War escort, Labour Corp.

British War Medal, Victory Medal.

Death / Burial / Memorial details.

Albert died aged 20 on the 11th April 1919 at Swindon Victoria Hospital. The cause of death is listed on his death certificate as (1) Acute Cellulitis (Bacterial infection) and (2) Septic Embolus. Susannah Bunce (Described as step-mother) in attendance. The Purton branch of The Royal British Legion has campaigned for a CWGC headstone but he is not eligible for a CWGC headstone / eligible for War grave status because he did not die during the War or due to an injury / ailment caused by Military Service (CWGC policy). The North Wilts Herald reported on the 25th April 1919 that Albert had served with the 72nd POW Company in France; his death was recorded in the Roll of Honour listings rather than death listings Albert is buried in PURTON (ST MARY) CHURCHYARD.

Evidence for inclusion on the Purton Parish list: Purton War Memorial (Recorded as A.BUNCE), name listed in the Memorial book in St Mary’s Church, 1918 voters list for Purton Parish (a NM), Pavenhill.

Best regards

Bob

No hit on the NA Catalogue search for this Unit. They do have a War Diary listing all Labour Corps Units and their deployments, which would need to be consulted in situ at Kew. The number is WO95/5495.

I have the UK, WWI Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 record for Albert Bunce regimental #612080 from Fold3. Is that the type of document you need?
