Just wanted to add that the diaries in 1916 for the 1/5th LNL regiment also appear to list as many men as possible of ALL ranks including service number for various reasons such as leave, training, wounded and killed. I have never seen a unit diary as detailed. Good stuff for any family researcher.

Hello Jonathan, not sure if this thread is still open. I am a little late in the day, you could say! I have begun trying to trace my grandfather's movements in the First WW. He was apparently in the 1/10th Scottish Battalion and I believe transferred to the 166th Brigade, 55th West Lancashire division. His military service is a mystery to the family- to some relatives and to the newspapers he said he was in France, to others he said he wasn't. Yet my Gran would go to Southport to see him when he was convalescing in a Blue uniform and indicated he was gassed (?) He gave his Victory and War medals back. His name was ALEXANDER BOLTON or ALEC BOLTON - 357111. Do you have anything relating to him. Many thanks, Charles Wilcock
