Alan Tucker Posted 28 September , 2010 Share Posted 28 September , 2010 It is possible that my grandfather was hospitalised here in the second half of the war. Anyone know anything about it?
Terry_Reeves Posted 28 September , 2010 Share Posted 28 September , 2010 Alan I have checked Reports by the Joint War Committee of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John; Rous Lench Court is not listed either as a Auxiliary Home Hospital or a Convalescent Hospital under their control. Nor is there any mention of it being used for military purposes in any of the entries on the web. Do you know what the significance of "80" is in your title? Sue Light Posted 28 September , 2010 Share Posted 28 September , 2010 I think the '80' is likely to be the number of the VAD Detachment involved in the unit - i.e. Worcester 80 Voluntary Aid Detachment. Sue
Alan Tucker Posted 28 September , 2010 Author Share Posted 28 September , 2010 Thanks for replies to date - this is all I know - photo of the half-timbered large house. Words on the back "This is my bedroom where I've put the cross isn't it lovely". No name or date but a cross in an upper window. My grandfather was 258/Tunnelling Coy RE but had to leave c1917 because of the effects of mine gas at Hill 70. There is a gap before he joined the Labour Corps and remained at home. The photo and message have only just come to light. -
