Frogsmile,

Many thanks for your i.d.

Mike.

Glad to help. I forgot to mention that the difference with RE drivers is that they also received special training in load handling using basic means such as lever and fulcrum, block and tackle and rudimentary tripod cranes, so as to assist with loading and unloading heavyweight stores.

A postcard of my great grandfather, Thomas Walton Martin (centre), of 72nd Siege Battery (South African) with 'two chums' McKenzie (left) and Adams/McAdams (right). The postcard is dated [illegible/5/17], maybe someone can make it out on the bottom right corner?

The other side reads -

‘My dear Mother, Father & Sis

This is just a wee snap of myself and two chums. You must please excuse our appearing so dirty as we just finished pulling guns to [illegible, maybe apart?] and putting them together. Hope everybody is quite well at home.

Your loving son & brother’

Group of mix cap badges from a Ordnance Corps Troops unit. Coln, Germany.

Coln (Cologne) was the location of the British HQ for the post armistice occupation force, which once established became titled the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR).  Britain was allocated the Cologne Bridgehead, a key strategic and tactical location to maintain control.  These men seem to be members of the initial occupation force.

Soldiers from The Royal West Kent Regt (The Buffs)

IMG_20190831_084217060.jpg

They are not Royal West Kent Regiment, they are members of the Kent Cyclist Battalion. That pattern of cap badge was also worn by the West Kent Yeomanry but they look more like infantry to me. Sorry to be a pain but the Buffs were East Kents not West Kents.   Pete.

It's ok Peter the Kent Regt's are not my specialist research I just new they were from Kent somewhere. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction as ignorance sometimes isn't bliss.
