Brings to mind the Duke of Wellington's (alleged) "... but by God, they terrify me!". Continuing the ducal theme, Churchill claimed the Duke's only stated regret was "I should have given more praise". Well, after The Ashes of course... Cheers, Pat And not in step ............. mark holden Posted 28 July , 2019 Share Posted 28 July , 2019 Hi Charlie, Just the surname 'Harper' in pencil on the reverse hence the question mark. Thanks for the other details much appreciated Regards Mark

LivesoftheFirstWorldWar has this on the Harrowden, Northants Memorial for him. Was the photo found in the area ? Charlie PS photo of Denis's brother Edwin is on this old thread. I suspect Harrowden have collected some good archives for their memorial and may be able to confirm photo (or even like a copy). Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 3 August , 2019 Share Posted 3 August , 2019 Dear GWF1967, Thanks for that. Interesting to see the Officer at right having dispensed with the cross-strap of his Sam Browne belt. The AIF left their Sam Browne cross-straps behind when the 6 Aust Div went overseas in early 1940 - but the Great War... Kindest regards, Kim.
