Muerrisch Posted 6 June , 2019 Share Posted 6 June , 2019 Toby, the MG section photo is "not before" 1914 ....... the sergeant has the MG wreath badge of that year. [I do however have a sneaky suspicion that sometimes the official birth of a badge occurred some time after the illegitimate birth .................]

Its is interesting to see the large brass 1st Class Scout badge on S.D. The black felt backing is clearly evident. This badge was supposed to have superseded by the smaller style in 1907. Some nice details here including Hooked Quillon P1907 Bayonets, early 1908 webbing with the straight tabs and early flared braces. If only it was named, thanks for posting

Thank you, I had overlooked that detail! It was the P14 Leather Equipment that dated it as wartime for me, I just couldn't resist that maxim. 1 hour ago, Coldstreamer said: If only it was named, thanks for posting No names at all unfortunately, hardly any of my cards are fully named or identifiable, which is such a shame as at somepoint they probably meant the world to people. Hello Neill, they are indeed Cutaways. Some more Monday Maxim goodness, and again its from the jocks, in the form of a lovely card of a Scottish Rifles Maxim team. The SR title can just be made out on the detachable shoulders straps of the SD.

Margosh Posted 10 June , 2019 Share Posted 10 June , 2019 One of the family postcards I take care of. Sent by my Grandfather (Ambrose, known as Brose) to my Grandma, referring to his brother John. The name of the village has been scratched out but I have identified it as Avesnes Le Comte which fits into the area where Uncle Johnny was most of the time (RASC motorcyclist attached to Ambulance Convoy, they seem to have stayed in the same general area). Looks like my Grandma used it for a bit of price checking at some point!! Margaret

A right mix of kit - perhaps recruits or the second-line MG section with a hand-me-down carriage - and a huge weight difference from the SR example. Very nice to see it worn KD and the black backing is also evident. Once again the large badge is in use 7 years after it was superseded! Thank you for posting. Toby Brayley Posted 19 June , 2019 Share Posted 19 June , 2019 Some more Maxim goodness. This time an unsent Postcard of the 5th Battalion South Staffs. 1908 Belts with tunics, and the short lived B type patrol jacket worn by the officer. Interesting arm badge. Still wearing the Victorian cap badge.
