Hedley Malloch Posted 10 June , 2004 Share Posted 10 June , 2004 I am researching two brothers, both KIA, for a friend and would appreciate if some kind person would look them up in SDITGW. The first is T(om?) Scott. In 1911 he was in the Durham Light Infantry; by 1914 he was living in Newcastle. He joined the Tyneside Scottish (20-23 Northumberland Fusilliers); he is thought to have died on 1 July 1916. A full copy of his SDITGW entry would be greatly appreciated. The second is J(ohn?) Scott. Family history has it that he joined 'the same regiment' which could be the Tyneside Scottish or some other branch of the NF. One suggestion is that he died 19/10/17 and is commemorated at Tyne Cot, but there may be other contenders. Since Scott is as common as Smith in Newcastle, there could be quite a few J.Scott's died with NF during WW1. I would appreciate a list. Many thanks in advance for any help received. Hedley Malloch Posted 10 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 June , 2004 Many thanks Arthur; this is very helpful. A couple of points. My knowledge of army number allocation is not what it should be. John Scott's number 37203 does not follow the usual pattern of TS/TI NF Kitchener volunteer numbering which is batallion number/xxxx. What does his number mean? Did he have previous service? Is John Scott KIA 19/10/17 the only NF casualty of that name during WW1? Many thanks in advance Hedley
Arthur Posted 11 June , 2004 Share Posted 11 June , 2004 Hedley, John Scott's number 37203 did not follow the same pattern of TS/TI NF. Also there is no mention of him serving with any additional units in the supplementary notes. However, SDGW can not be totally relied on for it's accuracy! John Scott Died 19/10/17. He is not reported as KIA. Regards Arthur
