michaeldr Posted 11 March , 2003 Share Posted 11 March , 2003 What do you suppose they mean by "plain biscuits?" One of my grandfathers drove an ASC lorry on the WF. This vehicle had an open cab and he told me that he and his mate used to nail their biscuits to the back of the cab so that the rain would weather them into an edible state. Otherwise their teeth were in danger of breaking off on the things! Regards Michael D.R.
Mark A Posted 11 March , 2003 Share Posted 11 March , 2003 I have a similar story. My granddad fought in the 8th army during WW2 and well remembered eating biscuits from WW1- so hard he chipped a tooth on one! Seriously, he once showed me it. I remember that like a lot of people of that generation he had a love of condensed milk in his tea as well- picked up the taste for it in the army. Andrew P Posted 12 March , 2003 Share Posted 12 March , 2003 If anyone is interested the Australian War Memorial is currently selling Anzac Biscuits. I'm pretty sure they are not the 1915 variety, but am sure they'd be just as tasty http://www.awm.gov.au
Guest J.Woodward Posted 12 March , 2003 Share Posted 12 March , 2003 I think the British Army of today still has a back supply of WW1 biscuits to get rid of! Not even nailing them to the back of a lorry could improve the texture and flavour of the infamous "Biscuits Brown"!
