Alan,

I will be attending - dinner too, hopefully. I will try and get my deposit to you sooner rather than later....

It was a great day last this year, so looking forward to next time.

Sorry Alan. Not got round to sending the deposit yet. Feel hand thoroughly slapped and will endeavour to rectify the situation this weekend.

To all others - I will be gutted if there are not enough for it to run. I am willing to fly over from Germany for the event so please if you are unsure about it please take that as a mark of what a splendid day it is.

Alan, please add my name to the ever growing list of attendee's.

I will sort out the deposit this weekend, for the day event, if I can sweat talk my missus to give me an extra ********* box then I might be on for the meal as well.

Cheers Roger.

can I just add my twopennorth to Jim's comment. Last year was excellent, a range of topics, some super speakers, and a chance to offer Bruce a fig roll. I won't report his reply. It was really good to put faces to names, and the informal discussions were often enlightening.

This year looks as if it will be just as good. Anyway, you have to come, I've paid for my accommodation already.

Hi chums,

I'm looking forward to this - it was one of the highlights of my year last time. Am coming up for a drink and a curry the night before as well! It is just so great to meet all the people you've been reading about on the forum for the last few years. Even the Mods are nice! I can only recommend my two fantastic fellow speakers Alan Wakefield and Jack Sheldon they are erudite, both have a proven track record of writing great books, they're good fun and best of all they like a drink - what more can you want from a historian!

I know Alan Curragh is doing a great job organising this conference so I hope we all get behind him to book early and book often!!!

Can one register under the Birmingham Scheme (rather than Derby)?

You leave Derby alone. Mr Hubbard! It'll be the fig-roll diet for you otherwise! :)

I must add my support for Alan to the list. Last year's event was just superb. The speakers gave very varied talks, both in style and content, and all were enjoyable as well as educational. They generated lots of questions, which I always take as an indication of a good presentation that's stirred the minds of the audience. Like Peter, I loved meeting other Forumites for the first time and many a chat - and laugh when Peter and Bryn were involved - was had. I didn't stay for the evening meal last time but I enjoyed the lunchtime socialising so much I shall stay this year.

That's if it happens, of course.

It would be a real tragedy if the Conference does not take place and I don't mean that as hyperbole. It's an opportunity for us all to get together, listen to talks outside our normal research areas and have a memorable day. Alan's hard work deserved better than this, people.

Will be there on the day but unsure about staying for the dinner and/or overnight nearby.

Re echoing the comments of others - the most unmissable event I have been to for a long time.

I would also urge as many as possible to be there, because (even though?) I've already booked and it would be a great shame if it couln't take place.

sign on please, you won't regret it

Please accept my apologies, Alan. I have been "just about" to send the deposit off for about 3 weeks now. I will ensure that it actually happens on Monday.

Alan, you can't receive anymore PM's so - I've just paid £20 via paypal to book two places at next years conference. Mrs Seany paid so it comes up as Annemieke Toye rather than my name. The two places are for - Sean Page and Philip Hardman. Looking forward to it and hope it goes ahead.

regards,

Sean Page

Thanks to all who have replied, and for the deposits that have come in. We're over 30 now so I'm confident we'll be able to go ahead.

Annette

Annette - anything up to a week or so before the date is fine - for now I'm just trying to make sure the numbers of people interested is high enough.

The Tally Ho is in Edgbaston, very near the cricket ground
