53rd Camel Corps 1914/15 Star

Many years ago at school, or is that skool in this world of TXT, starting out collecting, I swapped some Dandy Skipper Tatoo's (who remembers them) and some poorly painted lead soldiers for a 1914/15 Star to No.803 L/NK Ghazan 53rd Camel Corps. It came to light earlier this week after been lost for years.

Researching medals is new to me and I'd like to know what L/NK stands for?

Also if anyone has some detail on the 53rd CC and what they got upto. Were they part of Lawrence of Arabia's crew?

Any help would be great. What a great forum and what a fantastic subject. If I had known how interesting the researching is, I would have begun years ago.

I think L/NK stands for Lance-Naik, which was the equivalent of Lance-corporal in the Indian Army. Can't help with your other questions though, but someone will.

Have have a lot of details on Camel mounted units but have not heard of this.

Are you sure the medal has camel corps on it? or just 53rd CC.

If so then CC may mean something else.

There were Cooly Corps troops with the Indian Army.

That said no Indian Camel soldiers were attached to Lawrence only a HQ sect and two British companies of Camel Corps were late in the war.

The medal has " No. 803 L.NK. GHAZAN 53/CAMEL CORPS " on the reverse, just like any old corps issued 1914-15 Star. A bit of a rarity maybe?
