Remembered Today:

9th Entrenching Battalion

Can any member throw any light on this Battalion for me. I have come across it in the course of some research. On the breakup of the 1/3 Monmouthshire Regiment 200 men were sent to this Battalion on 5th Aug 1916 and then transferred to the 9th Welch Regiment on 20th September 1916.

I have tried using the search engine but can find no reference and unfortunately my own WW1 library is too small.

I am guessing that the men from the Mons were sent to it because they were a pioneer regiment.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

Martyn

I posted a message last November on the 2nd Entrenching Battalion in the 'Units and formations' section, you may wish to look up that thread for information on Entrenching Bns.

Cheers
