Peterhastie Posted 23 June , 2010 Share Posted 23 June , 2010 Can anyone help with identifying what cap badge and uniform this lady is wearing. http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af6/pet...rt1918BolFr.jpg Hand written on the back is "Love from Jean 25,11,18 Boulogne, France". Sue Light Posted 23 June , 2010 Share Posted 23 June , 2010 There is a medal index card for her showing her as Worker 2895 Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps. She could have been doing any of a whole range of jobs in France - clerk, stores, cook, driver ... There is no surviving service record for her (TNA DocumentsOnline). Michael Johnson Posted 23 June , 2010 Share Posted 23 June , 2010 Ancestry does not have all of the MICs that are at the National Archives. Women's and gallantry medal cards are most notably absent.

The women's medal index cards are at the Imperial War Museum, and I don't think there are any current plans to add them to Ancestry's online series. Peterhastie Posted 25 June , 2010 Author Share Posted 25 June , 2010 Jennie Anne Leith Doran Uniform or dress up http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af6/pet...ie/Pict0008.jpg
headgardener Posted 25 June , 2010 Share Posted 25 June , 2010 Uniform or dress up Dress up. Definately. An oversize Gordon Highlander's uniform, by the look of it. Did she have a brother or sweetheart in the Gordon's? Probably about 1915, judging by the style of jacket (it's a 'normal' battledress, rather than the type generally worn with kilts which is cut away at the front to allow space for the sporran). It's quite common to see contemporary photo's of women wearing their brother's or significant other's uniform. Nice photo, though.

Um.....not sure what you're referring to. She's got a cane under her right arm, and there's a light area to the side of her left upper arm, but I think that this is just fading on the photo; the dappled light effect on this area is basically the same as on the wall behind her.
