JOSTURM Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 James John William Brand was my grandfather's first cousin and served in WW1. His grand-daughter believes him to have been a Sergeant in the 22nd London Queens Regiment, but strangely I cannot find a Medal Index Card for him. I have uploaded a pdf of a group photograph of him with his mates for any knowledgeable Pals to check to see if he actually served with 22nd Londons or a different regiment etc. which may explain why i can't find his MIC. I was hopeful of his service record too - he survived the war. JJW Brand is the one with the smile and with the Cat in the back row ! Hope some Pals can help me trace him. headgardener Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 Could THIS or THIS be him? Doesn't appear to be JJW Brand in the MIC's, but then the naming on them doesn't always match a person's birth name absolutely. Maybe he didn't serve overseas. The 22nd London's and the Royal West Kents had essentially the same cap badge, by the way.
roughdiamond Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 Can you confirm what you mean by 22nd London Queens Regiment? it doesn't make sense to me, I don't think the Queens or the Royal West Kents had a 22nd Bn.
ralphjd Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 I think he means 22nd (County of London) Battalion (The Queens). Ralph.

The 22nd London Rgt was also known as 'The Queens' and had the same cap-badge as the Queens' Own (Royal West Kent) Rgt (which didn't have a 22nd Bn, as you rightly say). ralphjd Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 Headgardener. I respectfully suggest that you have the 20th Co of London Regt and the 22nd mixed up, the 22nd badge is the Paschal Lamb, the 20th the white horse of Kent as is the Royal West Kent. Regards. Ralph. Doh! You are respectfully right! I was thinking of the RW Surrey's. I'm not particularly focussed at the moment............

JOSTURM Posted 17 June , 2010 Author Share Posted 17 June , 2010 Thanks Guys for your comments. Can I just clarify .... is the uniform and cap badge of the men in the photo consistent with the 22nd Londons ? if not, can anyone identify which battalion/regiment he was in ?
