Ravrick Posted 14 June , 2010 Share Posted 14 June , 2010 Hi, I am trying to research 2/Lt Henry Woodward Allen, commissioned into the RFC on 20th Feb 1918, passed aviator certificate (No 7719) on 4th march 1918. Can anybody tell me where he served and which squadrons he may have served in? I have discovered he served in the Middle East with 14 Sqn in 1918.Any info on 14 sqns operations during this period would be appreicated, thanks in advance, Rick
Starlight Posted 26 June , 2010 Share Posted 26 June , 2010 Hi Rick, I'm afraid I can't help you regarding 2nd Lt Allen but I can tell you that 14 squadron was involved in reconnaisance and army cooperation at the time you are interested in, having recently (Nov 17) been re-equiped with RE8s to replace the old BE2s it had on charge. According to Les Rogers "British Aviation Squadron Markings of WW1" the squadron also retained a few Nieuports until the Turkish armistice at the end of October 1918. In December 1917 the squadron supported XX Corps in its advance on Jerusalem and in the new year continued to support the army as it advanced through Palestine towards Damascus. With the signing of the Turkish armistice the squadron returned to Egypt in readiness for a departure to Salonkia, but with the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918 it was sent back to England where it was first reduced to a cadre and shortly afterwards disbanded.
