jim_davies Posted 30 May , 2004 Share Posted 30 May , 2004 While looking at the losses the above battalion suffered at Neuve Chapelle came across that the majority are reported as KIA on 14 March 1915. My understanding was that the battalion was primarily engaged during the earlier stages of the battalion rather than on the 14th when it could be expected that the fighting had quietened somewhat. Is it possible that the 100+ men reported as KIA on the 14th (CWGC and SD) were in fact killed earlier, and for whatever reason been reported incorrectly? Paul Reed Posted 30 May , 2004 Share Posted 30 May , 2004 This seems to have been fairly common among the battalions which fought in this battle; I know of several examples where all the dead are shown has having died the day a unit came out of the line. You can safely assume that some of the men listed for this battalion died earlier; but exactly which ones is difficult to say.
