A friend is looking for her uncle or great uncle not sure which. Charles Albert Hiles, family from Malvern way Worcestershire.

She thinks there was a death plaque in the family but he does not appear on the CWGC list so that may not relate to him.He had another brother in the Worcesters and possibly one in the artillery. Any trace of him on an MIC or possibly census. Long shot but can anyone help thanks SG

Quick squint at TNA web-site shows a Charles A Hiles as a sergeant in the Labour Corps, regimental number 381396. Can't see the MIC, but I'm guessing that he 'only' qualified for a BW&VM, therefore only went overseas sometime in 1916 or later.

No sign on CWGC.

there are 3 pension records for a Charles Alfred Hiles from Malvern, Worcs on Ancestry. Born 1862/4. Joined up 1880 as 2585, 42nd Brigade, then Shropshire REgt. Fair number of postings/service. Egypt, Cyprus, Malta, Sudan.

Appears to have re-enlisted March 1900 as 2346/2246 aged 36, married, occupation bricklayer. Wife Kizia(?), children Charles Henry and Alfred Edward. Shown as a Sgt but reverted to Private at own request following court martial. No details.

Re-enlisted 1914 aged 50 as 381396 Labour Corps, occupation bricklayer. Acting Sgt from 1914 then Sgt 1916. Dicharged July 1918 as no longer physically fit. Wife Kezia nee Brown living at 3 Morgans Villas, Newtown, Malvern. Children listed as Kathleen, William and Frank. 336 (Res) Emp?? Co.

His marriage entry in 1891 has him as Charles Alfred W Hiles. Married in Solihull.

EDIT:

There is a family tree on Ancestry where the W is Wilmot. The tree appears to be from a descendant of the son Frank.

He had another brother in the Worcesters and possibly one in the artillery........

There are over 20 MIC's to recipients with the name Hiles who served in the 3 branches of the RA.

There's only one in the Worcesters; George A Hiles 25875, Pte, Worcs Rgt, then 416191, Pte, Labour Cps
