Niall Posted 11 June , 2010 Share Posted 11 June , 2010 I was having a look at my gt-grandfather's Medal card last weekend, (and using the resources on here and the long long trail to decipher everything on it) and found that he was eligible for the SWB, but it was never issued (he did receive his BWM, Victory, Territorial Service and WW2 Defence medal). Is it possible to apply to have this issued in this day and age?

sotonmate Posted 11 June , 2010 Share Posted 11 June , 2010 Niall Are you aware that sometimes there are two MICs,one of which can hold the SWB details ? You should post his details in case someone here can help you further. Sotonmate
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 13 June , 2010 Share Posted 13 June , 2010 If the MiC indicates SWB entitlement {ie entry of SWB/Listxxxx;or similar} then that would indicate the badge was issued {& being worn more often[ie daily in most cases]} & lost or mislaid, however if the Card just states "Discharged" [or abbrv] with date that is no measure of entitlement, the badge HAD to be applied for & a panel of Medicos, etc would say yay or nay to its issue~not all men discharged were entitled or applied for the badge issue was ceased in the 1920s IIRC as the necessity had passed {ie no need to show a man had served anymore. nhclark Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 Apart from the past few days I have been off the Forum for about two years or so. I doubt that I could find it now, but there was a very long thread at about that time on the SWB and how it was issued, whether it had to be applied for, how the processes changed as the war went on, and so on and so forth. It was about men rather than officers, but it might be helpful. I recall the thread because while it was running a number of knowledgeable Forum members had to rethink their ideas about the SWB. It might be worth you searching for the thread. Noel
NigelS Posted 17 June , 2010 Share Posted 17 June , 2010 A bit more recent than two years, but possibly this one: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...121951&st=0 PS Welcome back aussienoel! NigelS
nhclark Posted 18 June , 2010 Share Posted 18 June , 2010 Nigel, yes, sorry, that was it. I can't believe it was only one year ago. Perhaps that means I feel as though I've aged two years although only one has really passed... I must read that thread again. Thanks for finding the correct one.
