Help with English Grave - Manor Park

Hi this is probably a very long shot and if its the wrong thing to ask on the forum then please accept my sincere apologies.

My great grandfather Solomon Robert Smith fought in WW1 and served in the Royal Artillery - he was one of the lucky ones who survived the War and this forum has been fantastic in helping me find out so much information about him. I managed today to find out that he is buried in Manor Park Cemetery (address is Sebert Road, Forest Gate, London, E7 0NP) square 154 and grave 405. I don't know if he has a headstone.

Basically I was looking to seeif anyone lived nearby and would be willing to take a photo of his grave? I was lucky enough for a kind forum member from Belgium managed to take a photo of my great uncles grave in France and I know its a long shot but wondered if anyone would do the same for an English grave. Unfortunately I live in Scotland and getting down there is a problem for the short term anyway.

I have managed to get a map of the cemetery using the undernoted link

Many thanks

Steven

Stevie, if you haven't had any offers on this yet, and you can wait a few days, I can take a look for you.

I had a look on Google streetmap at the Whitta Road entrance to the cemetery, and the section you're asking about is visible from the gate. There are quite a few headstones in this section.

Thanks Gaz I had given up hope but had a stroke of luck this morning. The lady at Manor Park who did the search for free for me and found that Solomon was buried there has come back to me to say the cemetery can take a photo for a fee of £5 and she will try to do it Monday.

She couldn't confirm if there is a headstone but even a photo of the grass where he is buried would be fantastic. His wife isn't buried with him as she remarried in 1947 go a friend of Solomon called Eric Leonard Rolfe so I am trying to find out where they are buried.

I don't know if Solomon met Eric during the War but cannot find a service record for Eric but will keep looking

Thank you so much for the offer it is amazing how helpful the members of this forum are.

Regards

Steven

I've checked the national burial index for Eric, but cannot find anything. If you let me know his wife's name I will try to find her burial.

Cheers Digger for your offer of help

Eric Leonard Rolfe died around 1968

His wife my great grandmother was born Isabel Ward (sometimes known as Isabella) on 27/12/1894 in Forest Gate, West Ham. She died on 11/7/1984 in Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford. Essex. She was first married to my great grandfather Solomon Smith and when he died she married Eric. Eric is sometimes known as Eric Lenard Rolfe.

Hope this helps and fingers crossed. Manor Park came back to say Isabella and Eric were not buried there, I have emailed City of London Cemetery but they haven't come back to me.
