St Sever Cem Ext Rouen

I have done some work for a lady who's uncle was wounded in the 'Michael' battles.

He is buried at St Sever cemetery Extension, Rouen.

I would be most obliged if someone could point me in the right direction to a photo online or could take a pic of his grave for me -

Garton Leonard, Private 1/7th DLI, 78970, 30/03/1918. P. IX. E. 6B.

Many thanks

Hi Steve

Try this - http://twgpp.org/

I am waiting for them to get back to me about my wifes' Granfather who is buried there also

They have done photos of the cemetery, but last time I contacted them were still in the process of uploading and adding right details.

Looks like he is there - http://twgpp.org/results.php?sname=garton&fname=l

Hi Steve,

I'm recently here.

But I'm living in Rouen and I visit the ST SEVER Cemetery every week.

I produce some researches about the history of this city and I'm working now on the role of Rouen during the WWI.

Next time I go the this cemetery I could make a photograph. Please let me now if you're still interested.

Best regards from Rouen / Normandy, Bertrand

Hi Bertrand

That is very kind of you

He was Private Charles Hill Flanders

Here is the link to the AWM - http://www.awm.gov.au/research/people/roll_of_honour/person.asp?p=576551

So he is in the extension R III M 10

On the map of the cemetery it is nearly at the tip at the bottom.

Hope I have got it right

Robert

Hello,

Weather was with us this morning! One hour of sun...

I went to St-Sever Cemetery to fullfill your demands:

- Lt Frank OUNSWORTH / RAMC: photos done but this grave had sun on its back. I could send the pix but I've to go once again to produce a better one.

- Leonard GARTON, private 78970: photos done but this grave had sun on its back. I could send the pix but I've to go once again to produce a better one.

- Charles Hille FRANDERS, private 5270: photos done. I noted some details about this grave and localisation if you're interested in. I could send pictures and details

I'm really a "rookie" here and don't no how to send pictures through the forum. Please give me your email address in order I send you photos done.

It was pleasure to do that.

Best regards from Rouen/Normandy,

Bertrand

Hi John,

It's ok and a pleasure for me to help you. I read all the page about Great Uncle. The web site is fantastic and so rich; have to go back to know much more about Newbattle people at war.

It’s a pleasure for me to help people to get a picture connected to their ancestors; not allways easy when you’re so far away. And in return it’s a wonderfull moment when I receive information about a person buried here. Sometimes details of his life, job before war, dates, family, etc and more rarely a photo! With your great uncle I saw already all details and picture, a wonderfull one colorized).

So that's my turn to work. Just be patient because weather now is awful. I need sun to make good photos.

I'll keep you posted;

Best regards from Rouen/Normandy.

You are a gentleman,it nice to think of someone visiting Charlie's grave, my father went years ago but finds it difficult to travel long distances. I am glad you like the website, it is possible to translate the site to Francais, but I suspect you English is better than Googles French.

Merci bien

Hi again John,

Thank's for answering so quickly. Merci for your compliments about my English... Google French often create a strange mixture!

In fact now I'm working on a new book dedicated to the end of Campaign of France in June 1940. And I cross every day units belonging to 51st Highland. In June 1940 they were 2 batalions of Seaforth Highlanders (2nd and 4th). I'm working on both right now.

To go back to your ask I'll do my best to provide you photos; possibly next week because weather seems to be better on next Monday and Tuesday...

Good evening and best regards from Rouen/Normandy.
