gravedanger Posted 8 June , 2010 Share Posted 8 June , 2010 Hi Am researching a Gunner George ACKLAM (61338) of the Royal Horse Artillery during WW1. Trying to find which battery he was with in 1918. I have checked records at National Archives. No service records, only info I have from national Archives is from his MIC, stating his unit as Royal Horse Artillery. Any help greatfully appreciated Dave

sotonmate Posted 8 June , 2010 Share Posted 8 June , 2010 Dave Even the original Medal Roll (normally) has no reference to a unit ! Have you explored the possibility of him being on an Absent Voters List for 1918,for his home area ? That might show a unit. Sotonmate
KevinBattle Posted 8 June , 2010 Share Posted 8 June , 2010 While there is no guarantee that they served the same Battery, the nearest Service Number Geoff could find on CWGC was Name: CHENEY, CYRIL EDMUND AUGUST Initials: C E A Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Gunner Regiment/Service: Royal Horse Artillery Unit Text: "U" Bty. Age: 20 Date of Death: 26/10/1918 Service No: 61367 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Cemetery: STRATTON ST. MICHAEL CHURCHYARD Do you know where he's from? The only Acklam in CWGC is Name: ACKLAM, THOMAS Initials: T Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: East Yorkshire Regiment Unit Text: 2nd Bn. Age: 28 Date of Death: 28/02/1915 Service No: 8273 Additional information: Son of Robert and Selina Acklam, of Fridaythorpe, Malton Yorks. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 21 and 31. Memorial: YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL if it may help pin down a location, local newspaper archives etc. As it's the only one for that spelling, perhaps the chances are they have some relationship?
