Wilkinson Sword

The Wilkinson Sword Museum previously located at Brunel Street, London has apparently closed. As a major supplier of goods and private purchase items etc. during the Great War I was trying to do some research from their records but when I called the museum the phone number just rang out.

That museum held records of Wilkinson Sword Tailors and Outfitters for the Great War given to them by the parent company when apparently the works at Brunel St closed and the museum was set up.

When I called the Wilkinson Sword company (whos customer service was excellent by the way) I was told that the museum had closed with no forwarding details and all of the exhibits were missing and had not been returned. How can this happen? Where are the exhibits and records from the archive that were sent there by Wilkinson Sword and how can they be researched now?

Has a valuable and unique research archive gone for good? Can anyone help?

P.S The sword records are fine and intact apparently maintained by Mr Pooley who runs a company restoring their blades and maintaining the sword archive.

Robert Wilkinson Latham is associated with Pooley and has responded to my queries in the past. A very fine gentleman!

I am much obliged. Its seems unimaginable that the documents and records as well as artifacts could have vanished.

Unfortunately, archives seem to be under increasing threat - in the public as well as private sector.
