Andrew P Posted 29 May , 2004 Share Posted 29 May , 2004 Major Hugh Quinn of the 15th Battalion was the Australian officer whose name gave the spot to one of the most hotly contested parts of the Anzac battlefield, Quinn's Post. It was here that almost constant bomb throwing took place from the day of the landing till evacuation. Quinn's leadership in the early days of the campaign was one of the reasons as to why this part of land remained in the Anzacs possession. Unfortunately Quinn was killed during one of the Turkish attacks and is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery. For his picture and history see here. http://www.anzacs.org/pages/AOquinn.html & http://www.awm.gov.au/units/place_71.asp

Andrew P Posted 29 May , 2004 Author Share Posted 29 May , 2004 Great site Christine. Forgot to mention that the Australian War Memorial historian Peter Stanley is currently working on a history of Quinn's Post during the campaign.
