Luba Posted 31 May , 2010 Share Posted 31 May , 2010 My wife's great grandfather was killed 4 July 1916 - It stated at the time that he was 49 years old (in fact he was 52) would this age have been unusual for someone to fight in the war? HIs name was Charles Rennie Kings Own Scottish Borderers and his number was 21744. Thanks Dave
River97 Posted 31 May , 2010 Share Posted 31 May , 2010 Dave, Firstly, welcome to the forum. Have a hunt using the search facility as there a numerous threads and posts detailing the extreme ages of some of those who fought during the war. I have seen an age range from 13 to 75 and I think there are older. These are for enlisted soldiers as well. Cheers Andy.

River97 Posted 31 May , 2010 Share Posted 31 May , 2010 Dave, Had a hunt through Ancestry and it says on his MIC and SDGW that he died of wounds on the date mentioned. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any surviving service records. Cheers Andy.
