bruce7294 Posted 28 May , 2010 Share Posted 28 May , 2010 Hi I had the opportunity recently to view some trench maps of the Ypres salient and was particularly interested in the area vicinity of what is now the Canadian Memorial at Vancouver corner. Query "on the trench map the location appears to be designated as Winipeg corner. Is it indeed one and the same point, if so, why was the name changed?" Phil Evans Posted 28 May , 2010 Share Posted 28 May , 2010 Hello Bruce, Winnipeg lies South East of Vancouver, confusingly, also on a crossroads (of Sint Juliaanstraat and Zonnebekestraat), but does not have the distinctive Triangle. On the trench maps I have for September 1917, when 2/5 Londons were in action, there is a cemetery marked, which I would like to know the origins of myself. Whether it was a local cemetery, or war graves, I don't know. It is hard to tell from Google Earth images whether it is still there. Phil
