mmm45 Posted 27 May , 2010 Share Posted 27 May , 2010 Hi Can anyone tell me if a memorial exists for employees of the Midland Railway Company Im after anything on a porter William Henry Jennings he was KIA with 1/7th West Ridings in April 1918 and was employed as a Relief Porter with this company. He lived in Kirkby Lonsdale Enlisted Lancaster. Thanks Ady
Stebie9173 Posted 27 May , 2010 Share Posted 27 May , 2010 The Book of Remembrance for the Midland Railway states that the memorial was/is at the company's HQ at Derby. It is a cenotaph type memorial with names on lower plinths. Page 32 of the book shows "Jennings, W. H., Private, West Riding Regiment, Porter, Traffic Department - Coaching Section at Morecambe" Steve.
GrahamC Posted 27 May , 2010 Share Posted 27 May , 2010 The UKNIWM has a page - here - but I remember there used to be a beautiful memorial on Midland Road, on the left, a few yards up from the station entrance. Hope they've not lost it!! Graham
Nigel Marshall Posted 27 May , 2010 Share Posted 27 May , 2010 Derby Railway Station has been re-developed and the Memorial Plaques have been incorporated into a wall built on one of the platforms. Cheers, Nigel

Scritch Posted 31 May , 2010 Share Posted 31 May , 2010 Hi Ady, The Midland Railway Memorial for all employees is indeed still on Midland Road, Derby, just down the road from the railway station. I should be able to get down there and take a photo of William's name at some point if that would be of any help to you. Cheers Rich
Scritch Posted 31 May , 2010 Share Posted 31 May , 2010 There are some brass plaques located on a wall of the station, but these are for the men who worked in the railway construction workshops in Derby. Hope this helps Rich
