Guest missy1800 Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Hi I'm a little new to all of this but I have a couple of relations and I wonder if anyone would be able to provide (or direct me to where I could find) any additional information on these Brothers? William LEATHERBARROW 10260 L/Cpl. 9th West Yorks. Regiment 27/08/1915 Gallipoli Edmund LEATHERBARROW (Served as LEATHER) 16590 Pte. 18th Kings(L'pool)01/07/1916 Any information would be very gratefully received. Thanks, Kate
Admin kenf48 Posted 26 May , 2010 Admin Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Hi and welcome to the forum a good (the best!) place to start is the parent site, the Long Long Trail(LLT) 'Researching a soldier' http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/grandad.htm While people are happy to help it's perhaps better if you're more specific and also tell us what you know about them. I assume you got the information above from the Commonwealth War Grave (CWGC) Debt of Honour search. You can search at the National Archives (TNA) for their medal index card (mic) or you can search Ancestry from your local library or using the free 14 day trial. Someone may look them up for you. The War Diary may be available at TNA or on the forum. Try here http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...howtopic=145000 William Leatherbarrow mic shows he died of wounds at Gallipolli having entered theatre on 2 July 1915 landing with his Battalion as shown on the LLT Edmond Leather went to France, landing with his Battalion on the 7th November 1915 at Boulogne (LLT). He was killed on the Somme probably when his battalion successfully attacked German positions at Montauban suffering over 500 casualties (or about half the Battalion strength). Like his brother (?) he has no known grave. (If you click on the red link for each memorial on the CWGC entry you will learn more about the memorial). That's a starter suggest you read the LLT and come back with any questions. Ken
