Donna2010 Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Hello Everyone I am trying to find out some more information about my great grandfather, the only information is the following: Name: Francis Brooks Born in: Worcestershire Regiment Name: Royal Regiment of Artillery (Roy Garr Arty) Regiment Number: 23286 Signed up: 2nd August 1905 (Age 22 and 11 Months) Rank: Gunner Based: Pembroke R.G.A Description of him: 5ft 7ins, Blue Eyes and Brown Hair All this information was taken from his new starter form, in which I have.... All I want to know is the following: .Where was he posted? .Did he substain any injuries during the Great War? .Is there any photo's lying around in this forum for this Regiment? I just want some insight of what he was like, in which I may not get the answers I am looking for. I know he didn't die during the Great War, as I know he died in the 1950's after commiting suicide. If anyone can help, that would be great Donna x
ororkep Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Welcome Donna to the forum, This pre war regular gunner of 'exemplary character', served in a variety of home based Artillery Garrisons, and in Aden and India. His main service during the war was in West Africa, Sierre Leone. His comprehensive records survive on Ancestry (eg. A certificate of Sobriety). dfaulder Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Sounds like a trip to the local library to look at Ancestry is called for! David
River97 Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 Donna, Welcome to the forum from me as well. Some info you might like to hear. You need to get access to Ancestry, do one of those 14 day free trial things, as 45 pages of his service records are available. All I did was a Military search of 'Francis Brooks' and matched up the place of birth. Happy reading, Cheers Andy.
grantowi Posted 26 May , 2010 Share Posted 26 May , 2010 His medal index card (MIC) is available from the national archives for £2 - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1 - but if you join ancestry, it should also be on there.
