An American professor had published in late 2006 a scholarly book based on extensive archival research on the various women's battalions of death and other units. See the following link direclty from the publisher:

Hello John,

I had done a bit of research on the Womens' battalions after picking up a few postcards of the 1st Petrograd Women's Battalion, so I was please when I came across this book.

I read it when it first came out, and I thought it was a good book.

Yes, I own a copy; an excellent detailed analysis of the subject, even if the prose style is a bit dry
